Homemade Brazilian straightening: recipe, steps and advice!

Brazilian blowout is a very popular hair styling technique that allows you to achieve smooth and shiny hair in a long-lasting way. However, this technique can be expensive and involve the use of chemicals.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of Brazilian straightening without breaking the bank or putting your health at risk, why not try a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment?

In this article, we offer you a simple and economical recipe, as well as tips and tricks to obtain good results.

Prepare your Brazilian straightening at home with this simple and economical recipe.

Here is the list of ingredients and equipment needed to make a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment:

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup of vegetable keratin
  • 1 pair of gloves
  • 1 bowl
  • 1 spatula

In a bowl, mix the coconut oil and vegetable keratin until you obtain a homogeneous preparation. Apply the mixture to the hair, making sure to cover each strand well. Leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Steps to follow to achieve a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment

Here are the steps to follow to achieve a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment:

    1. Prepare your mixture of coconut oil and vegetable keratin as described above.

    2. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo, then dry it halfway with a towel.

    3. Apply the mixture to the hair, making sure to cover each strand well.

    4. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave it on for 30 minutes.

    5. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, then dry your hair using a hair dryer or towel.

    6. Straighten your hair using a flat iron on a low heat setting, starting with the bottom strands and working upwards. Make sure not to go over each strand too many times to avoid damaging it.

How to maintain your straightened hair after a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment:

To keep your hair smooth and shiny after a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment, here are some maintenance tips:

    • Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, which are less harsh on hair.

    • Apply a nourishing care cream

    • Protect your hair from external aggressions, especially the sun and the pool. Use a hat or scarf to cover your hair when exposed to these elements, and use a dry hair conditioner after swimming.

    • Make nourishing masks regularly, using natural ingredients like coconut oil or avocado. These masks will help to nourish and moisturize your hair deeply, for longer-lasting results.

Tips to get the best results with your homemade Brazilian straightening:

Here are some tips to get better results with your homemade Brazilian straightening:

    • Do a thorough brushing before applying the mixture, in order to detangle the hair and remove impurities. This will allow better penetration of the mixture and more homogeneous results.

    • Use a moderate temperature for the hair straightener, so as not to damage your hair. If you have fine or damaged hair, opt for a temperature lower than 150°C. If you have thick or resistant hair, you can increase the temperature up to 180°C.

    • Do not leave the mixture on for too long, to avoid weighing down your hair. If you have fine hair, 30 minutes will be more than enough. If you have thick or very frizzy hair, you can leave the mixture on for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The pros and cons of doing a homemade Brazilian straightening:

Homemade Brazilian straightening has several advantages:

  • It is an economical solution: the necessary ingredients are inexpensive and easily accessible.
  • It's a natural solution: by using natural ingredients like coconut oil and plant keratin, you avoid using harsh chemicals on your hair.
  • It's a practical solution: you can do a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment at home, without having to go to a hairdresser.

However, homemade Brazilian straightening also has some disadvantages:

  • This is a time-consuming solution: you need to allow a good hour to do a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment, between preparing the mixture, applying it and laying it down.
  • This is a solution that can be less effective than a professional Brazilian straightening treatment: in fact, hairdressers often use more concentrated products and more efficient devices, which can give more lasting results.
  • This is a solution that can be riskier: it is important to respect the recommended doses and application times, in order to avoid overloading or damaging your hair.

If you have any doubts, go straight to home straightening kits.

Homemade Brazilian straightening is a practical and economical solution to achieve smooth and shiny hair.

By using natural ingredients and following the steps and tips described above, you can achieve a quality Brazilian straightening treatment at home.

However, it is important to consider the risks and limitations of this method, and choose the solution that best suits your needs and hair type.

If you have fragile or colored hair, or if you want long-lasting results, it may be better to call on a professional hairdresser to carry out your Brazilian straightening.

In any case, don't forget to take care of your hair every day, using suitable products and limiting heat and chemical treatments.
