Everything you need to know about Brazilian straightening: types, ingredients, prices and opinions?

Brazilian straightening is a hairdressing technique that allows you to straighten and tame curly or frizzy hair, while giving it shine and volume.

This method has become very popular in recent years, but many people still ask the question: what is a Brazilian straightening and how does it work?

In this article, we will give you all the useful information about Brazilian straightening, so that you can understand how it works and if this technique is right for you.

Question: What is a Brazilian straightening?

A Brazilian blowout is a hair straightening method that uses a formula based on keratin, a natural protein found in hair. The keratin is applied to the hair in a mixture and then activated using heat (usually from a flat iron or styling appliance). The goal of a Brazilian blowout is to straighten hair and give it shine and volume, while protecting it from humidity and oxidation.

According to a 2021 study, more than 60% of women who tried Brazilian straightening noticed an improvement in the quality and appearance of their hair after the session.

The main obstacle for many people who hesitate to try a Brazilian straightening is the cost. Indeed, there are several solutions to achieve a quality Brazilian straightening without breaking the bank.

First, you can opt for products from lesser-known brands that are just as effective as the big brands.

You can also look for offers or promotions in hair salons in your city, or opt for a homemade Brazilian straightening treatment using natural ingredients such as coconut oil or vegetable keratin.

The different types of Brazilian straightening: what are their characteristics?

There are several types of Brazilian straightening treatments on the market, which differ in their ingredients, duration of results and properties. Here is an overview of the different types of Brazilian straightening treatments and their characteristics:

  • Brazilian formalin straightening: this type of straightening is the best known and most used. It uses a formula based on formaldehyde, a chemical that helps to straighten hair in depth. Brazilian formalin straightening is very effective for straightening the most unruly hair, but it can be aggressive for the hair and health (it can cause irritation and headaches).
  • Brazilian straightening without formaldehyde: as its name suggests, this type of straightening does not contain formaldehyde and is therefore less aggressive for the hair. It uses a formula based on vegetable keratin and other natural ingredients, which allow the hair to be straightened more gently. Brazilian straightening without formaldehyde is less effective than Brazilian straightening with formaldehyde but it is healthier for the hair and health.
    • Brazilian herbal straightening: This type of straightening uses a formula based on natural ingredients from plants, such as vegetable keratin, coconut oil or shea butter. Brazilian herbal straightening is very gentle on the hair and is suitable for people with fragile or damaged hair. However, it may be less effective for straightening very curly or frizzy hair.
      • Brazilian straightening with thermo-protective effect: this type of straightening uses a formula that contains thermo-protective agents, which protect the hair from the heat of styling appliances (straighteners, hair dryers, etc.). Brazilian straightening with thermo-protective effect is ideal for people who often use these appliances and want to protect their hair from heat.

Which Brazilian straightening treatment should you choose according to your needs and your budget?

There are several things to consider when choosing a Brazilian blowout: your needs, hair type, budget, and ingredient preferences. Here are some things to consider when choosing the Brazilian blowout that best suits your needs:

      • Your needs: If you have very curly or frizzy hair, and you want a long-lasting straightening, you should opt for a Brazilian straightening with formaldehyde. If you have hair that is easier to style, or if you prefer natural ingredients, you can choose a Brazilian straightening without formaldehyde or with plants. If you often use styling tools and want to protect your hair from heat, you can opt for a Brazilian straightening with a thermo-protective effect.
      • Your hair type: If you have very damaged or fragile hair, you should opt for a gentle Brazilian straightening treatment, such as the Brazilian straightening without formaldehyde or with

plants. If you have healthy hair, you can opt for a Brazilian straightening treatment with formaldehyde or with a thermo-protective effect.

      • Your budget: Brazilian hair straightening with formalin is generally more expensive than other types of Brazilian hair straightening. If you are looking for a less expensive solution, you can opt for a Brazilian hair straightening without formalin or with plants.
      • Your ingredient preferences: If you prefer to use natural ingredients for your hair care, you can choose a Brazilian straightening treatment without formaldehyde or with plants. If you do not have any particular ingredient preferences, you can opt for a Brazilian straightening treatment with formaldehyde or with a heat-protective effect.

How to maintain a Brazilian straightening treatment to extend its lifespan?

A Brazilian straightening treatment can be expensive and time-consuming to perform, which is why it is important to properly maintain your straightening treatment to extend its lifespan. Here are some tips for maintaining your Brazilian straightening treatment:

      • Use hair care products that are suitable for Brazilian straightening: There are shampoos, conditioners and masks that are specifically designed for Brazilian straightening. These products often contain keratin or nourishing agents that help maintain the straightening and protect the hair from humidity.

      • Avoid high-heat styling tools: If you have a Brazilian blowout, you should avoid using high-heat styling tools (straighteners, hair dryers, etc.), which can damage your hair and melt the straightening. If you must use these tools, remember to use a heat protectant on your hair.

      • Do regular nourishing treatments: To maintain your Brazilian straightening, you can do regular nourishing treatments, such as keratin or coconut oil masks. These nourishing treatments will help maintain the hydration and softness of your hair, and extend the duration of your straightening.

      • Avoid sleeping with wet hair: Sleeping with wet hair can cause your Brazilian hair to melt and create frizz. To avoid this, dry your hair thoroughly before going to bed.

Brazilian straightening is a great solution for achieving long-lasting smooth and shiny hair. However, it is important to choose the Brazilian straightening that best suits your needs and preferences.
