Andre Walker: Adopted by the stars

Andre Walker's work has been recognized and rewarded several times. Among other things, he has won seven Daytime Emmy Awards. He first gained recognition and attention for his hair styling work for Oprah Winfrey on her popular television show. In addition to styling the hair of this great star, he gained attention for the original hairstyle he created for Halle Berry.

Andre Walker's style has fascinated many famous people who have entrusted him with the care of their hair, including Barbara Bush and Michelle Obama.

A rapid rise

A graduate of Pivot Point Academy , Andre Walker got his start as a hairdresser in Chicago, where he quickly opened his own salon in 1980. He operated his salon until 1986. In 1985, he had time to join Harpo Productions, with whom he honed his style as a hairdresser.

It was in 1986 that he contacted Oprah Winfrey, whom he admired, to offer her his services. In a very short time, he became the famous host's regular hairdresser. From that moment on, Andre Walker's successes began to flow. His creations earned him the Daytime Emmy Award seven times from 1989 to 2003. He has also been nominated for the same award seven other times, which reflects the immense respect his work has generated.

The accolades don't stop there, as Andre Walker received the LEO Award from Pivot Point International in 2008. This award is given in memory of Leo Passage, founder of Pivot Point. He also received the Thurgood Marshall Fashion Icon Award in 2009.

A system that sets a precedent

Andre Walker's successes don't stop at the awards he's received for his work with celebrities. In 1990, he created a hair classification system, the Andre Walker Hair Typing System . He first used this system to market the line of hair products he had developed. The system was later adopted by other product designers and quickly became the industry standard.

The Walker scale has allowed all members of the hair industry to establish a system that accurately describes all hair types and suggests hair products that are suitable for each. The system is based mainly on two criteria: hair texture and thickness.

The scale establishes that there are four types of texture, namely straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair and kinky hair. As for thickness, there are three types of hair, namely fine, medium thick and very thick.
